Violations

Violations are any crimes with up to $1000 in fines and no possibility of jail times. Most traffic offenses are violations. Other offenses that are crimes can sometimes be reduced to a violation. One such offense is possession of marijuana. While violations will not give you a criminal record, there can be other collateral consequences. Many traffic violations can have an effect on your driver license.

Misdemeanors

In New Hampshire, misdemeanors are either a Class A or a Class B. Both will give you a criminal record if you are convicted. Class A misdemeanors carry up to a year in jail.

Felonies

Class B Felonies are a crime with a maximum jail sentence of 7 years plus up to a $4000 fine.

Class A Felonies are a crime with a maximum jail sentence of 15 years plus up to a $4000 fine.

Some crimes, like Murder, carry additional jail time

Trial Attorneys

The Lawyers at Liberty Legal have experience in both bench trials (trials in front of a judge) and jury trials. In NH, Class B misdemeanors and violations will be a bench trial. Class A misdemeanors usually start off as a bench trial, but if you are found guilty you have an automatic right to appeal for a jury trial.
